Sydney Sweeney shares how she really felt about her X-rated Euphoria scenes

Viewers have had plenty of opinions about Sydney Sweeney’s OnlyFans storyline in Euphoria season three – and now the star has shared her own thoughts behind the controversial plot.

During the final season of the series, Sweeney’s character Cassie gains notoriety as a content creator on the often X-rated subscription site.

“From the very beginning, you can see that Cassie has this need to be loved,” she told Vanity Fair.

“She has a need to be validated by other people. She doesn’t know how to love herself unless someone else loves her.”

Sweeney was asked about how she discussed Cassie’s racy scenes with show creator Sam Levinson.

“He asked me how I felt about it, and I told him, ‘Look, I’m playing a character.’ Do I agree with all of Cassie’s decisions? Would I, personally, make these choices? No, of course not.

“But I’m an actor and that’s my job, and this is Cassie’s life and to be able to do her justice and play her how she’s to be played is to bring Sam’s vision to life and to play Cassie in the most vulnerable and insane way possible.”

During a recent interview with The New York Times′ Popcast podcast, Levinson said he had considered doing Cassie’s storyline without nudity but Sweeney convinced him otherwise.

“Well, it’s funny, when I first wrote it, I was like, maybe we shoot all of this and we don’t have any nudity, maybe there’s ways to shoot around certain things?” Levinson said.

“And she looked at me and she was like, ‘Are you kidding? I’m playing an OnlyFans model. You’re telling me you’re going to like, skirt around it?’ And I was like, yeah, OK, that’s a fair point.”

In her profile, Sweeney also opened up about being the subject of internet discourse, with everything from her love life and relationship with Scooter Braun to politics scrutinised.

“At this point, I think it would be so tiring having to correct everything and everyone,” she said.

To her, all that mattered was that her “innermost circle” knew the real her.

“If I’m a good person to people who are around me, then that’s what matters,” she said.
