Sir Rod Stewart and son plead guilty to battery after New Year's Eve altercation

Music icon Sir Rod Stewart and his son Sean have both plead guilty to a misdemeanour count of "simple battery" after the pair were accused of assaulting a security guard in 2019.

The 'Maggie May' singer, 76, and his son, 41, were accused of assault after they were refused access to a private event on New Year's Eve in Florida, according to the BBC.

Sean allegedly shoved the security guard and Sir Rod struck his chest "with a closed fist", the police report said.

The father-son duo both entered guilty pleas to battery and will avoid court or a jail term.

The likely consequence would be a fine or probation, Sir Rob's lawyer Guy Fronstin told the publication.

"No-one was injured in the incident and a jury did not find Sir Rod Stewart guilty of the accusation," Fronstin said in a statement.

"Instead, Sir Rod Stewart decided to enter a plea to avoid the inconvenience and unnecessary burden on the court and the public that a high-profile proceeding would cause."

The altercation occurred with the guard Jessie Dixon at the luxury Breakers Palm Beach Hotel in Florida in late 2019.

Sir Rod told police that after he and his son were denied access to the party, the guard become argumentative, causing his family to become "agitated".

The rock star reportedly apologised for his role in the incident, the police report said.
