Hollywood A-lister Sharon Stone mourns loss of brother Michael in latest string of family tragedies

Sharon Stone is mourning the loss of her older brother Michael. He was 74.

The actress, 68, announced her brother's death on Instagram, writing: "Mike Stone, My oldest brother, Has passed away. Following an extended illness. We wish him peace."

It adds to a string of tragedies to hit the Stone family after their middle brother Patrick died of a heart attack in 2023, just 17 months after his infant son River died of organ failure.

Michael was also an actor, although he spent his life largely out of the spotlight.

He made his acting debut in 1990 in Ends of the Night and acted alongside his sister Sharon in 1995 film The Quick and the Dead.

Throughout his career Michael also starred in both TV and film including CSI: Miami, The Bold and the Beautiful, Eraser, Malevolence, and his final film, Destinos Opostos in 2022.

Michael never married, although he was briefly engaged to socialite Tamara Beckwith between 1994 and 1995.

Michael and Sharon attended several red carpet events together through the years, including the 1994 Vanity Fair Oscar Party in West Hollywood, California, and the 66th Annual Academy Awards.

As well as brothers Michael and Patrick, Sharon also has a sister Kelly who is the youngest of the four Stone siblings.

Sharon detailed the siblings' close bond in her 2021 memoir The Beauty of Living Twice. They supported each other through the highs and lows of life including Sharon's health issues and alleged sexual abuse.

They came together again when Patrick's 11-month-son was found in his crib with total organ failure.

Sharon announced her godson's death in 2021 with a touching video that showed the baby boy smiling and laughing.

Sharon later reflected on the good River was able to accomplish through the donation of his organs.

The actress told People, "The fact that my godson was able to save three lives, two infants and a 45-year-old man, was sanctuary for our family."

The Stone siblings grew up in Pennsylvania where they were raised by their parents Joe and Dorothy.

The couple remained married until Joseph died in 2009 at 79.

When Dorothy Stone died at 91 in 2025, Sharon also announced the news via Instagram, writing, "My hilarious, complex mother died. A product of the last depression, let's NOT do this again."
