Victoria Police investigating sexual assault allegations against Katy Perry after Ruby Rose posts

Victoria Police are investigating sexual assault allegations made by Australian actor Ruby Rose that she was assaulted by US popstar Katy Perry.

In a series of posts on Threads on Sunday, Rose accused Perry of assaulting her during a night out at Melbourne nightclub Spice Market in 2010.

Today, police confirmed to nine.com.au an investigation into the allegations was underway.

"Melbourne Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) detectives are investigating a historical sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010," a spokesperson said.

"Police have been told the incident occurred at a licensed premises in Melbourne's CBD.

"As the investigation remains ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."

Perry has denied the allegations made against her, with a representative for the pop star blasting Rose's claims as "categorically false." 

"The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous, reckless lies," Perry's rep said to People.

"Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named."

In the social media posts, Rose alleged Perry approached her and assaulted her 16 years ago.

"Katy Perry sexual assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a s--- what she thinks," the DJ commented under an article about Perry reacting to Justin Bieber's Coachella set. 

"I was only in my early 20s. I'm now 40. It has taken almost 2 decades to say this publicly. Though I am so grateful to have made it long enough to find my voice, it just shows how much of an impact trauma and sexual assault takes. Thank you for seeing me."

Rose claimed that she played off the incident as a "funny little drunk story because I didn't know how else to handle it".

She added that Perry agreed to help get her US Visa, so she decided to keep what happened quiet. 

Rose said she wouldn't be speaking any further on the alleged sexual assault in a post shared to her Instagram Threads hours earlier.

"Hi! Last update on this: As of this afternoon, I have finalised all of my reports," read the post from Rose.

"This means I am no longer able to comment, repost, or talk publicly about any of those cases, or the individuals involved.

"It's going to look like I am ignoring everything from supportive messages, to other people's experiences, but I'm not.

"This is a standard request from the police and in many ways, quite the relief.

"I can start the healing process now. And temporarily move forward. I love you all so much." 

The Orange Is the New Black actress thanked those who had backed her choice to speak out about the alleged incident with Perry, 41, who has denied all allegations.
