Rock legend Rod Stewart cancels US tour after heart surgery

Rod Stewart, 81, has been forced to cancel his concert dates for the next month after undergoing a heart operation.

In a post to the singer’s Instagram, Stewart explained that he will need to take the next four weeks off after undergoing a coronary stent procedure.

“I’m already feeling better and very much on the mend. I want to thank the doctors, nurses and everyone who has taken such wonderful care of me,” he wrote.

“I’m deeply disappointed to miss these shows and sorry to let my fans down, but I look forward to getting back on stage and having a good time with you all again soon.”

The caption of the post explained the situation in more detail, adding that “doctors are pleased with his recovery,” with Stewart already returning to his normal daily activities.

“On the advice of his doctors, he will take the next four weeks to recuperate and regain full fitness before returning to the stage,” the caption continued.

Fans were quick to comfort him in the comments, with hundreds of messages wishing him well in his recovery.

The announcement comes just two days after he postponed a show in Cincinnati, Ohio to undergo a medical procedure.

“Due to an unforeseen but minor medical procedure that required prompt attention, Rod Stewart’s performance tonight in Cincinnati at Riverbend Music Centre has been POSTPONED,” the venue shared on the day of the show.

Stewart’s One Last Time tour schedule included a concert today in Cleveland, US and a show in Kansas City on Saturday.

He was also supposed to return to Vegas for a number of shows at Caesars Palace on August 18 before performing in Minnesota, Illinois and Mexico.

The four-week break from tour comes amid a number of health scares and issues with the tour, leading to debate about the singer’s ability to finish the tour.

One video, posted to X, went viral last week after a social media user said his lacklustre performance of his hit song Maggie May was “embarrassing.”

“Can someone please tell Rod Stewart that it’s okay to retire! This is embarrassing!′ the post read.

While some agreed, others jumped to his defence, saying he sounds just as good as ever.

“I saw him last summer & he was phenomenal! Yes, he [was] older & tired, but he put on a great performance,” one fan wrote.

In the video, Steward looks clearly puffed out, taking big deep breaths between lyrics and standing on the spot without moving much.

This is not the first time the singer’s health has sparked discussions or impacted the tour.

Just two months ago, the singer was spotted with an oxygen tank on stage in Utah after he had already cancelled a show in San Diego due to laryngitis.

He was also forced to cancel two shows in Vegas on “doctors orders” in March after suffering from a sinus infection.
