Film critic Margaret Pomeranz's twin grandkids make acting debut on Modern Family

Sarah Hyland's character on Modern Family, Haley Dunphy, recently gave birth to twins — and it turns out those babies have an Australian connection.

Little Hunter and Andie Pomeranz are the grandkids of Margaret Pomeranz, who has made a career out of being one of Australia's best-known and most respected film critics.

It looks like her grandchildren are following her footsteps into the industry — but instead of critiquing it, they're gearing up to be stars.

It probably helps that their parents also have a foot in the door. The twins' mother, Phillipa Whitfield Pomeranz, is a producer, and married to Margaret's son Josh.

According to Phillipa, timing was everything when it came to the twins landing their roles.

"Our neighbour was looking at a casting call and saw they were looking for newborn twins," Phillipa told Sydney Confidential. "We sent photos to the casting agent and they were cast."

Phillipa submitted her kids without even knowing who they would play. "We did not know they were going to be one of the main character's babies."

"They already got their cheque and we opened them a bank account," she added.

Haley Dunphy gave birth to her twins — a boy and a girl — in the popular sitcom's Season 10 finale.

To mark the occasion, Hyland shared a photo with the twins on Instagram.

"Double the pleasure + Double the fun = Double the Babies," she wrote.

Once news was out that her character was expecting, Hyland shared her TV pregnancy journey with fans on social media.

"Well I guess the cat's outta the bag!!! Or more like the bump's outta the shirt!..... that was a horrible joke. I apologize," she wrote to accompany a photo of her baby bump fitting.

It's likely that Modern Family's 11th season — which will be its last — will explore Haley's first few months as a new mother, which means we probably haven't seen the last of Hunter and Andie yet.
