Miranda Kerr and her husband, Evan Spiegel recently made global headlines when they donated $US550 (about $797 million) to pay the medical debts of more than 260,000 Californians.

As the news has settled down and people have adjusted to the shock of the well-off willing to help those less fortunate, there seems to be one question left floating around: How much money does the couple actually have?

While Kerr’s net worth is nothing to sneer at, the majority of the couple’s funds come from Spiegel, who, for those unaware, is the man behind the popular social media app Snapchat.

For Kerr’s part, her big break came when she was just 13 years old. In 1997, she won the Dolly magazine model search, and ten years later, she signed a contract with Victoria’s Secret, going on to become the first and only Aussie ever to wear the angel wings.

But while modelling opened doors, Kerr has previously told nine.com.au that her passion lies in health and wellness, having launched her own brand, KORA Organics, in 2009.

“I actually used the money I’d saved from my modelling career to self-fund the business,” she said.

Since the company is privately held, there’s no exact number to tell us how much KORA Organics has made, but it’s estimated that annually, the company brings in around $33 million.

By 2015, Spiegel had made his first billion dollars, making him the youngest billionaire in the world, a title he still holds today.

By 2017, he was worth a staggering $4 billion, ready to take a $1 annual base salary when Snap Inc. went public on the New York Stock Exchange, putting his personal finances entirely in the hands of the company’s performance.

Today, he still serves as co-founder and chief executive officer with a major equity stake in the company, with his net worth tied to the fluctuating success of the business and currently sitting around the $2.1 billion mark.
