Kyle Sandilands calls in sick, one week after show pulled from air for tech issues

Just two weeks into Kyle Sandilands Live, the host himself is missing from air. Kyle Sandilands called in sick on Friday, August 21, just one week after his new show was pulled due to tech issues.

Subscribers were notified ahead of the show with an announcement shared on the app by executive producer Jaimee “Mayo” Blazquez.

“Hey guys, unfortunately Kyle is off unwell today (actually sick not like the old days hahaha), but the cast are here to fill in!” She wrote.

“Hope you enjoy the show. Start calling through to join in now.”

When the show kicked off, it was newsreader Brooklyn Ross who was sitting behind the golden mic in place of Sandilands.

“Good morning, good morning! Hello. Uh, I have some sad news to report this morning,” he said before acknowledging how “strange” it felt to be opening the show.

“Kyle is sick today. And from what I hear, this is a legitimate sickness.”

Sandilands’ manager, Bruno Bouchet, then chimed in to explain the star’s illness after having spoken to him earlier that morning.

According to Bouchet, Sandilands’ absence was due to high blood pressure associated with his brain aneurysm diagnosis in 2025. Bouchet said it was “doctor’s orders” for Sandilands to take the day off.

“I know that he would actually be devastated to not be here, wouldn’t he?” Ross added.

“He’s built this whole thing with his bare hands. I know he actually would be here if he could.”

The news comes just two weeks into the show, and just one week after it was pulled off-air due to tech issues.

Kyle Sandilands Live launched on August 10, and it got off to a rocky start with a plethora of technical issues affecting the show.

As the team tried to get on top of things from Monday through Thursday, they eventually made the decision on Friday, August 14, to take the show off the air.

Basquez and Ross shared a video announcement in the app, apologising that they had pulled the pin on Friday’s show.

“We were scared this day might come,” Ross began, saying his colleague was “very stressed right now”.

“We’re so sorry that the tech has failed us today because the show that we had planned would have been incredible,” Blazquez added.

She said they didn’t want to push ahead with a show, which listeners have paid a $99 yearly subscription for, that no one could hear.

“We’ve tried a few times, and I think we’re just going to upset you more if we keep coming back and then disappearing again. So we’ve decided today to not take the show to air,” Blazquez said.

The team returned on Monday, with a stack of new equipment and tech issues resolved.
