Justin Bieber says first year of marriage to Hailey Bieber was 'really tough'

Justin Bieber is looking back on married life with Hailey Bieber (née Baldwin).

The 27-year-old 'Yummy' singer who got engaged and married in 2018, admitted their relationship got off to a rocky start.

"The first year of marriage was really tough because there was a lot going back to the trauma. There was just a lack of trust," Justin told GQ for their cover story on April 13.

"There was all these things that you don't want to admit to the person that you're with, because it's scary. You don't want to scare them off by saying, 'I'm scared.'"

Hailey and Justin got married in September 2018 in a New York courthouse. They hosted a larger ceremony in the Bahamas with celebrity friends in 2019.

"I just felt like that was my calling. Just to get married and have babies and do that whole thing," he told the outlet, noting they aren't ready to have kids "this second."

Justin said his home life wasn't always "stable", and he appreciates having a partner to settle down with.

"We're just creating these moments for us as a couple, as a family, that we're building these memories. And it's beautiful that we have that to look forward to. Before, I didn't have that to look forward to in my life," he said. "I didn't have a significant other. I didn't have someone to love. I didn't have someone to pour into."

Meanwhile, Hailey recently gave some insight into their romance in a recent interview for Elle's April issue.

"I learn new things about him and about myself and about our relationship all the time," Hailey, 24, said of Justin.

She admitted they often "have little fights and stuff that we have to work through sometimes it really doesn't ever feel like work, because I love him so much. I see forever with him."
