Jerry Seinfeld says popular '90s sitcom was 'saved' by late Hollywood icon Rob Reiner
The widely popular '90s sitcom Seinfeld may have never happened without the work of the late Hollywood icon Rob Reiner, Jerry Seinfeld says.
Seinfeld shared a tribute to Reiner in the wake of his death, claiming that the acclaimed actor and director "saved" the show from cancellation.
"Our show would have never happened without him. He saw something no one else could," Seinfeld wrote in the heartfelt statement, accompanied by a photo of himself alongside Reiner and Reiner's father Carl Reiner.

"When nobody at the network liked the early episodes, he saved us from cancellation."
The show, which starred Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander, Jerry Stiller and more, ran for nine seasons from 1989 to 1998, totalling 180 episodes.
Despite now being one of the most iconic sitcoms, Seinfeld had a slow start. The show initially received poor ratings but NBC kept the show running. It took three years for the show to became a Top-5 rated show.
Reiner's film and TV production company Castle Rock Entertainment produced the series.

Seinfeld noted that the late actor-director "had the biggest influence on my career" alongside Seinfeld co-creator Larry David and the late George Shapiro, who was Seinfeld's manager.
Continuing of Reiner's impact on his career, Seinfeld wrote: "That I was working with Carl Reiner's son, who happened to be one of the kindest people in show business, seemed unreal".
"I was naïve at the time to how much his passion meant for us."

Reiner's wife Michele Singer Reiner, who died at the same time as her husband, also had an impact on the comedian.
"Rob and Michele married right as our show was starting and they became an imprint for me of how it's supposed to work, each one broadening the other," he wrote.
"Their death, together, is impossibly sad."
The husband and wife duo were found dead at their Los Angeles home on December 14.

It is reported they were found by their daughter Romy. Investigators believe their death was the result of a fatal stabbing.
Their youngest son Nick Reiner has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his parents. He is being held on no bail.
