John Oliver fights back after being played off stage while eulogising his dog
John Oliver has had an emotional moment on stage.
While giving his acceptance speech for Best Scripted Variety Series, a tearful Oliver spoke about having to recently put down his dog.
As the talk show host spoke, Emmys producers began playing the wrap-up music, used to signify to an award winner that they need to finish their speech and get off stage.
But Oliver was having none of it.

"I also want to thank our dog, the most fantastic dog, she got us through the pandemic," Oliver said in his acceptance speech.
"She was with us through the two pregnancies, and we had to say goodbye to her."
Then, the wrap-up music began to play.
At first, he joked about it, saying, "That's perfect timing; she was an amazing dog; this is for all dogs, you're very good girls and very good boys. You all deserve a treat."
But cameras also caught him saying, "F--k you!" as he pointed in the audience's direction and wrapped up his speech.
"I feel like Sarah McLachlan right now!" he said in reference to the singer-songwriter's tear-jerking animal cruelty commercial.
As the audience clapped, Oliver signified to the producers that he was now ready to close out his speech, saying, "Play me off now!"
