Dakota Fanning is one of Hollywood's biggest names, thanks to her roles in movies like I Am Sam, War of the Worlds and Uptown Girls.

More recently, she's creating buzz with her roles in the hit shows The Perfect Couple, starring Nicole Kidman, and the TV mini series Ripley, which landed her a Primetime Emmy nomination.

The star, now 30, has grown up in front of our eyes - and managed to successfully go from child star to a leading actress.

And it's something she credits her doting mother for. In a new interview, the grounded star admitted her mother was "there every second" for her and she has "compassion for people who have been made into examples".

She has recently made headlines for expressing her desire to start a family, prioritising it over her career.
