Billie Lourd has shared a moving tribute to her late mother, Carrie Fisher, seven years after her death.

Fisher, who played Princess Leia in the original Star Wars films, died aged 60 after suffering a heart attack on Christmas Eve 2016 while on a flight from London to Los Angeles.

"Every anniversary brings a different iteration of my grief," Lourd wrote in her message on Instagram, posted with a photo of her and her mum when she was younger.

"Some [iterations of grief] infuse me with rage, some make me cry all day long, some make me feel dissociated and empty, some make me feel nothing, some make me feel guilty for feeling nothing, and some make me feel all of those things all at once," Lourd continued in the caption.

"This year when I woke up I felt grateful - or griefull if you will. Grief has infused my life with a sense of appreciation I had never had before. It makes me soak up every moment of joy as if it were my last."

Lourd went on to say she was holding her 12-month-old sleeping daughter and was overcome with joy, and felt her mother's presence "like the warmth of the sun on your skin on a hot summer day."

"The kind of warmth where you unknowingly close your eyes and take a slow breath through your nose and grin."

The 31-year-old actress shares two kids with husband Austen Rydell, whom she married in March 2022: son Kingston, 3, and daughter Jackson Joanne, 12 months.

"I miss her every day but the cliche is also true - she is with me every day - she infuses my joyful moments with even more joy," she wrote.

"As I tell my son, she lives in the stars - and she damn sure makes my life sparkle. Sending my love to all my griefers out there. And hoping everyone can feel a little sparkle of griefull among all the feelings grief inevitably brings."

Fisher died one day after the death of her mother, Debbie Reynolds in 2016, when Lourd was just 24 years old.

Recently, Lourd opened up about that terrible time in a podcast interview.

"It was brutal. It was really, really brutal, and I still hesitate and stutter because it's really hard for me," Lourd told the New Day podcast.

"I miss my mum every day and my grandma, but really, my mum the most."

The Scream Queens star was born in 1992 in Los Angeles and is the only child of Fisher and talent agent Bryan Lourd.
