‘We’ve never done that’: Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little mock radio station for AI use

Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little returned to the airwaves on Thursday, a day after announcing their decade on-air would be coming to an end later this year.
As the drivetime hosts got a little nostalgic about their achievements over the past 10 years, they also mocked Hit Network staff, accusing them of using ChatGPT to write an exit statement as it listed show milestones that never happened.

"A press release was put out by our esteemed network after we did the announcement on-air that the show was finishing up, and we had a read, and it was really lovely," Little began.
"It thanked us for our 10 years of service, and then it started to take a bit of a turn."
The first error all agreed was simply "just a bit of a typo" when they spoke about Carrie's Beanies for Brain Cancer fundraising initiative as Brian cancer.
“I should point out I try to raise money for brain cancer, not just Brian’s cancers, I don’t specially focus on Brian’s, I like to focus broader than that,” Bickmore said.
They then looked down the list of their achievements that included a number of things they’d never actually done.
"Here's where it gets particularly interesting," Little said.
“‘Or braving their icy Tassie lake plunge’ - was I there for that? I don’t remember ever doing a Tassie lake plunge ... because we’ve never done that.
“The next line where it says ‘Carrie and Tommy have constantly taken their audience along for the ride’, not for that one, we didn’t even take ourselves along for that.”

It turns out neither of them remember it because it didn’t happen, just like they hadn’t done a “legendary” bus tour.
"My favourite one though is the next one," Bickmore said.
"The favourite one is 'legendary', and it's how I would certainly like to be remembered.

Luisa Dal Din and Jack Archdale announced in new radio line up after Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little exit
“Obviously, our annual roast, which has been great (tick) and our ‘legendary mystery bus tours’… I certainly missed that one. That was a mystery to me.”
Bickmore joked that she wanted to do one now before the show ends on December 11 because it sounded like fun.
The duo, together with the show’s producers, then debated how many mystery bus tours they must have done for them to qualify as “legendary”.
The show’s staff admitted, on reading the statement, they figured those big moments must have been before their time until the hosts themselves said it hadn’t happened.

Bickmore joked that the people putting together the press release must have similarly thought it all happened before their time at the company as well.
“We gave away a million dollars and that didn’t get a mention, but our legendary mystery bus tours that never happened [got a mention],” Little said.

Tommy Little and Carrie Bickmore’s radio exit leaves one question. We could have the answer in a matter of hours
“I thought, ‘how did they get this information?’ I thought, ‘I know, let’s get ChatGPT and let’s type in what are Carrie and Tommy known for?’
“And that’s where it mentions – and they spell brain cancer right – the campaign and ‘braving an icy Tasmanian lake plunge’. Surprise trips to Paris – yes, we did that. Caravan adventures – yes, we did that – around Queensland, ‘and their popular mystery bus tours’.
“So someone from our company has gone, ‘hang on, we’re gonna jazz this up, they’re not just popular, they are legendary’.”
There is a chance the information appearing in Little’s ChatGPT search came from the press release itself, as opposed to the other way around.
Either way, the Hit Network is yet to comment on the mix-up, but the press release in question is not available on their website.
Also deleted, after garnering 125,000 views, is the Instagram clip of the spray and the episode appears to have been removed from the Listnr podcast site.
Nine.com.au has contacted Hit Network’s parent company Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) for comment.
