Ellidy Pullin welcomes child with Olympian Alex 'Chumpy' Pullin 16 months after his death

Olympian Alex 'Chumpy' Pullin's widow Ellidy Pullin has announced the birth of their child 16 months after his death.

"Hello. I have a baby!" Ellidy said on her Instagram Story this morning, showing a new bundle of joy wrapped in a green pull.

"And we have been a lil busy and tired."

Ellidy also shared a video of her dog with a baby blanket, saying she's now a "big sister." Watch above.

The new mum later announced her daughter's name and birth date in another Instagram post, writing: "Our girl, born 25th October 2021🦋Minnie Alex Pullin🦋"

Chumpy, who was an Olympic and world champion snowboarder, passed away at the age of 32 in July 2020 after an incident occurred while he was spearfishing in waters off the Gold Coast.

Ellidy and Chumpy's baby was conceived after his passing via IVF.

Prior to his death, Chumpy and Ellidy were trying for a baby — but Chumpy's medical team quickly retrieved his sperm after his death and assisted Ellidy to successfully conceive through IVF.

"In the weeks after [his death] I had hoped to God that I was pregnant," Ellidy explained in her Darling Shine podcast in June.

"I just prayed for this little miracle. Everyone knew we were trying so hard for a baby and had been trying for ages and were starting to talk about IVF."

Ellidy explained in the podcast that although she was not pregnant at the time of her partner's passing, in Queensland, where he passed away, it is legal to retrieve sperm from a deceased person's body up to 36 hours after their death.

"We were able to hustle — Chumpy's parents were in town, everyone was signing court documents, legal documents and dealing with the coroners and the lawyers and the doctors," she said.

"It's the most bittersweet thing in the world and it's a complete emotional rollercoaster but this is my greatest gift. It didn't unravel the way we planned, life is literally crazy, but we're having our baby. It's so unreal and so emotional."

Ellidy's birth announcement was flooded with supportive comments, including from Aussie Olympians Jess Fox and Georgia Bohl.

"😍🤩 congratulations 💛💛💛💛," Fox wrote.

Nikki Van Dijk, an Australian professional surfer, also commented: "Just the most beautiful news."
