A Northern Beaches mechanic is winning votes for this clever marketing campaign but they're unlikely to land him in parliament.

Nate Newell of Star Garage is vying to become the "Member for Mona Vale" on a solid platform of "dogs, heavy metal and fixing cars".

Newell's convincing corflutes have popped up alongside those for Mackellar MP Sophie Scamps, Liberal candidate James Brown and Labor candidate Jeffrey Quinn.

Importantly Newell is not a candidate, but an enterprising mechanic who is doing well to advertise his business.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese addressed the National Press Club of Australia in Canberra.

When asked if he if he regrets anything from his last three years in government he dodged the question.

He spoke of "learning" on the job.

"I think my leadership style is one that has brought us unity - not unity by doing nothing," he said.

"Unity by doing something."
