Sarah Swain

Experience

Sarah used to spend her school holidays volunteering at local newspapers and radio stations. After graduating she finally got a job working for a weekly paper near Glasgow in Scotland. During a stint in Australia she worked for home design magazines.

She then spent six years working for regional paper The Evening Times in Glasgow writing everything from news to showbiz and fashion and covering community events. Sarah also contributed to Scottish national papers, The Herald and the Sunday Herald.

Sarah later worked for Ahlan! magazine in Dubai, covering news and features. After returning to Australia she worked for the Manly Daily in Sydney. 

Sarah joined nine.com.au in 2018 as a senior reporter. She covers news and travel and helps lead weekend coverage. Sarah has also contributed to major radio and TV shows around the world.

Education

Sarah studied at the University of Sheffield in the UK where she gained a 2:1 BA (Hons) in Journalism Studies and completed NCTJ preliminary qualifications.

Awards and Recognition

Sarah was named UK Lung Cancer Journalist of the Year plus nominated for other awards including a European Health Journalism Award for leading a successful stop smoking campaign for Glasgow’s Evening Times.

Sarah was also part of the team at the Manly Daily in Sydney which was named the PANPA Daily Community Newspaper of the Year in 2016.

Sarah was part of the 9News.com.au team that won Kennedy Awards in 2020 and 2021 for outstanding online news breaking for coverage of the NSW floods and bushfire crisis.
