A teenager who was slashed with a machete during a brawl in a beachside suburb of Melbourne ran bloodied to a nearby supermarket for help.

The 18-year-old suffered deep cuts to his wrists in the fight between two groups of teenagers on the Mordialloc Pier at 5.45pm on Sunday, with beachgoers and horrified families enjoying the warm night just metres away.

The 18-year-old fled to a busy Woolworths after being stabbed in Melbourne.

The injured teen ran through a children’s park to the Woolworths supermarket on Main Street several hundred metres away, where a passerby called emergency services for help.

Witness Trevor Douglas said: “Staff were yelling out to close the shop and telling people to get out and stuff like that. Customers were pretty, sort of shocked and surprised.”

Workers at Woolworths have been given counselling after witnessing what happened.

A trail of blood inside the park was visible on Monday.

The teen, from Rowville, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Three teenage boys were later arrested after a fight inside the supermarket and police are probing whether it was linked to the stabbing.

A 16-year-old from Greater Dandenong and two 15-year-olds from the Knox and Whitehorse areas were all released without charge.

Police continue to investigate.

The supermarket is the same store that was stormed by hundreds of teenagers last year, and locals have told 9News they want more police patrols in the area.

Police say they have bolstered their presence around beachside areas
