Florida's Republican Governor Ron DeSantis also criticised news outlets for their hesitation in declaring a Trump victory.

"Why haven't networks called the race? It's a done deal and the refusal to recognize the obvious speaks volumes about the (lack of) objectivity of these outlets," he wrote.

Florida is a must win for Mr Trump. He essentially cannot win the election without Florida.

The state was also considered to be the easiest path to victory for Mr Biden.

There are still other ways Mr Biden can become president, however, it will take much longer for the result to become clear.

At the last election, Hillary Clinton lost the state by a razor thin margin of 1.2 percent.
