A teenage motorbike rider and a 43-year-old driver have been killed in a crash in Melbourne, and a child pulled from the wreckage.

A car and motorbike collided at the intersection of South Road and Olive Street in Brighton East about 6.30pm on Sunday, as the road toll mounts on Victoria’s Melbourne Cup weekend.

Both men, a 19-year-old from St Kilda and a man aged 43 from Hampton, died at the scene.

A child who was in the car was taken to hospital with minor injuries after being treated by paramedics.

Ambulance Victoria said he was taken by ambulance to The Royal Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.

Police are investigating and are appealing for witnesses.

Eight people have been killed since Friday night on the state’s roads, four of them riding motorcycles.

They include a driver killed in Maryborough on Friday night, and motorcyclists also killed the same night in Footscray and Healesville.

Victoria Police launched a road safety campaign for the weekend.

It says nearly one in three road deaths this year have been a result of speeding.
