Where is Yellowstone filmed? Inside the real-life Dutton Ranch and filming locations

There's no doubt we live for the drama in the hit Western-series Yellowstone.

But fans have become equally obsessed with the world of Yellowstone, including the now-famous ranch where the series is filmed.

As we countdown to Yellowstone's final epic chapter, which premieres this November on Stan, we take a look at some of the iconic filming locations – including those you can visit in real life!

Here's everything you need to know about where Yellowstone was filmed, including the real-life Dutton Ranch:

Is the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch real?

In short, yes it is!

While the fictional world of Yellowstone might not be real, the location certainly is. Chief Joseph Ranch is a real ranch in Montana used for the filming of the Yellowstone series.

The family-owned, working ranch is also home to the 'Dutton family home' – a stunning 6,000 square foot lodge that sits alongside three massive barns.

Chief Joseph Ranch is located in the town of Darby, Montana, with the Bitterroot River Valley just outside its doorstep.

The coolest part is, they keep the Yellowstone signs up all year round!

Watched by millions, the 'Yellowstone' Ranch has become a character in its own right. Although the owners still see the ranch as a guest house and family home.

"We are humbled and honoured that Paramount chose our ranch as the setting of this amazing series," they said on their website.

Can you visit the Yellowstone ranch?

Saddle up, Yellowstone fans because you can visit the Yellowstone ranch in real life – and stay there too.

Fly into Missoula International Airport and it's just over a one hour drive to the Chief Joseph Ranch.

From US$1,400 per night (AU$2,098), guests can stay for at least three nights in one of property's famous cabins.

Fans can choose to rent out 'Lee Dutton's Cabin' which has 360 degree views of picturesque mountains, or 'Rip's Cabin' which has Beth's aesthetic written all over it and sleeps up to eight guests. You can even bring your own horses for the ride!

The main Dutton lodge is where the family owners live, but every reservation includes a tour of the ranch and Yellowstone set including the barns, bunkhouse and outside river locations.

You better be quick though. Due to its popularity and Yellowstone's current filming schedule, you need to book a stay at Chief Joseph Ranch well in advance.

The above photo was shared on the Ranch's official Instagram page. If the comments are anything to do by, this Yellowstone experience would be every fan's dream.

"Oh man, I would love to visit this ranch one day, so beautiful!" gushed one excited fan.

"I wish I could stay here just once, I'd be happy and complete in life," wrote another, while a third agreed: "Me too I'd love it, it's on my bucket list!"

If you don't have a reservation, fans are more than welcome to take photos of the Dutton Ranch sign, provided the show isn't filming of course.

Where is Yellowstone filmed?

Roughly 75 percent of Yellowstone's first three seasons were filmed in Utah, as reported by The Salt Lake Tribune.

While three sound stages were used, filming also took place in Park City, Utah, which is about a six hours drive from Yellowstone National Park.

Filming moved to Montana for Season 4 and beyond, with real-life locations such as the County Courthouse used for exterior shots.

Those famous Governor's office and courtroom scenes were filmed at the State Capitol Building in Helena, Montana. This is also where Beth's office scenes take place!

As for the Reservation, these scenes were captured on the real-life Crow Indian Reservation. Taking up more than 2 million acres, it's the largest reservation in Montana.
