Gold Logie winner Waleed Aly celebrates another trophy with new home

The Project host Waleed Aly has a lot to celebrate after being awarded the Best Presenter Logie at last night's awards — his third win, after taking out Best Presenter and Best Personality in 2016. 

But, perhaps his biggest win of late is the recent reported purchase of a $2.1 million property in the inner Melbourne suburb of Richmond.

Aly and his wife Susan Carland bought the home last month after renting in the area for years.

Last year, the Logie-winning host complained that he could only afford to rent due to sky-high house prices.

However, it seems in the 12 months since his last Logies win, Aly has found the funds to splash out on a home in the trendy-but-gentrified Richmond area for his family of four.

According to the Herald Sun, a real estate agent was tight-lipped on the Richmond sale because "Waleed Aly had been a good client." 

Aly is sure to be pretty chuffed he's staying in the Melbourne suburb where he has strong community roots.

In 2001, he appeared as the local AFL team's mascot, and in his 2016 Gold Logie acceptance speech he gave a shout-out to "this guy called Dimitri" who turned out to be his owner of one of his favourite local restaurants, Demitri’s Feasts, on Swan Street. 

During last night's acceptance speech the 38-year-old said 'any idiot could host the show' but he was "genuinely delighted [...]to be that idiot."

The news of his new digs, which are close to Channel 10's South Yarra studio, and another Logie for his trophy cabinet, are sure to have Aly feeling pretty smug.
