No one at the Logies actually knows why it's called the Logies: Watch!
The Logie Awards are TV's night of nights, but their name is…a bit confusing.
TheFIX decided to see if Australia's biggest and brightest stars could clue us in on why the ultra-glam event they were attending at Crown Melbourne on April 23 was actually called the Logies.
Spoiler alert: They couldn't.
"It's a nickname given early on by Bette Davis," said TODAY Extra's David Campbell. "Oh no, that's the Oscars!"
Offspring's Asher Keddie and husband Vincent Fantauzzo were completely baffled by the whole thing. As were Doctor Doctor's Rodger Corser and his wife, Renae Berry.
Hamish Blake — who later skewered who later skewered with Andy Lee — joked, "It's Legends Of Generous and Interesting Entertainment."
Even the Logies 2017 official ambassador, Dannii Minogue, was stumped.
"You know what, there is a really good answer to that, and I was thinking about it the other day," said the star. "And I don't know the answer."
Doctor Doctor's Chloe Bayliss ventured, "It's Logie Bear?" while co-star Ryan Johnson guessed, "Is it like after a massive night at the party, you cough up a Logie?"
American singer Andy Grammer, who performed his hit 'Fresh Eyes' during the show, came closer than a lot of his Aussie counterparts, saying, "It's a guy's name, right?"
It is!
The Logie Awards were named after John Logie Baird, a Scottish engineer who helped invent the medium of television in 1926.
The first awards in 1959 were just called the TV Week Awards but the following year TV legend Graham Kennedy coined the term "the Logies".
And the rest is television history.
