Woman shares simple tip for 'spa-worthy' towels at home

There's something about the towels you get given at a day spa or hotel that make them oh-so soft and fluffy.

But turns out there's a secret to "spa-worthy" towels at home, with a mum has sharing her bargain tip on TikTok.

The best part is the essential item you need for the tip, which is probably hiding in your pantry already, can revive stiff and scratchy towels you've got in the linen cupboard.

The woman, who goes by the name Mama Mila on TikTok, explained that swapping out fabric softener for white vinegar and a warm machine wash is the key to fluffy towels.

"Say goodbye to stiff, crusty towels," she captioned the post.

The instructions in her clip are simple: start by setting the washing machine to a wash between 40-60 degrees.

"Level up your self-care routine with spa-worthy towels," she wrote in the video.

Next put the towels in with the normal amount of washing detergent, but instead of fabric softener, add half a cup of plain white vinegar into the wash.

She left the towels until they were almost dry, then chucked them in the tumble dryer to finish them off. "This will help softness and absorbency," she added.

Mama Mila claimed the vinegar "breaks down" any residue leftover from detergent, even in previous washes, leaving the towels soft and fluffy.

Her followers loved the laundry tip and thanked her for sharing it.

"I never use fabric softener on my towels, I notice it ruins the original texture of the towels. But thank you for this tip!" wrote one follower.

Another added, "Trying this!"

It's a great hack and one I tried out earlier this year, so I can safely say it works so well.

I tried the tip on both towels and a load of washing and even without putting either load into the dyer to finish it off, they both felt oh-so soft, fluffy and not stiff or scratchy.

Another bonus that comes with using vinegar is it won't cause any skin irritations or affect the absorbency in your towels.

Vinegar also helps clean out deposits of washing liquid and other build up in your machine, which happens over time, unlike commercial softeners which can make it worse.
