The Block 2018 drops a huge apartment twist leaving the contestants stunned

The Block may just have dropped the biggest twist yet in show’s history, as the stunned contestants discover they’re not quite done renovating The Gatwick, and it's the viewers who'll benefit.

After The Block 2018’s contestants put down their tools for the final time after completing their outdoor living spaces, the Blockheads celebrated what they thought was their final renovation transformation on The Block.

But the competition isn’t over ‘til Scotty says it’s over - and the show’s host had one more surprise in store for the exhausted teams.

Just as the weary Blockheads thought the game was finally over and they’re going home, Scott Cam revealed the twist: there is a sixth apartment inside The Gatwick in need of renovation, the 'challenge apartment' -- which all five teams need to transform together before the competition finishes.

Norm and Jess are genuinely shocked by the news.

Over two weeks, the Blockheads will renovate all 10 rooms in the challenge apartment. Each pair will have one week to complete one room each across the two weeks.

The apartment is huge.

The prize for winning top marks for the challenge apartment

There's a major incentive for the teams to produce a top marks space this year.

The winning pair will walk away with a whopping $90,000 knocked off the reserve price of their apartment come auction day. The last time a challenge apartment win was up for grabs (in 2016), the prize was $20,000 off reserve.

Will the sixth apartment be auctioned?

The challenge apartment in The Gatwick won't be auctioned, instead, it's to become the biggest prize in the history of Australian Television.

The multimillion-dollar Block apartment will be won by the lucky viewer who purchased The Block Special Edition Monopoly board game and registered the unique code found inside the box to win.
