This Sydney tennis court just sold for $3.55 million

If you’re wondering what fanciful extras a few million bucks gets you in the Sydney property market, this story’s not for you.

In an auction that can only be described as Peak Harbour City, a Hunters Hill tennis court has been auctioned off for the eye-watering price of $3.55 million.

The 900sqm court was once a part of the house next door on Woolwich Road, but was recently subdivided and sold to a buyer who doesn’t want to be named.

He told realestate.com.au he plans to build a home from scratch, and “the sought-after location was too hard to pass up.”

“We love Hunters Hill and really wanted to build,” he continued. “I probably spent $100,000 more than I was planning to but it’s such a great stretch of land.”

Three registered bidders had their eye on the prize on Friday, with the bids starting at $2.9m; the reserve was $3.3m.

Selling agent Matthew Ward said, “It just shows how much demand there is for blocks that are blank canvases.

“People say it’s a softer market, but good properties still sell very well.”

So too former pieces of people’s estates.

According to realestate.com.au, the tennis court sale follows a sale in Wollstonecraft on the lower North Shore where the owners divided off their swimming pool to create a 546sqm lot that sold for $2.23 million; as well as a Russell Lea sale of a subdivided driveway and backyard for $1.05 million.
