Room Reveals: Courtney and Sev’s Front Yard and Façade
After running out of time and budget, Courtney and Sev hoped to impress the judges with thoughtful details in their Front Yard. Unfortunately, it didn’t work.
Courtney and Sev ran into some major budget issues with their Front Yard and Facade. They even admitted if they had to grade the week, they’d give themselves a D- for budget. But what did the judges think?

Darren Palmer and Shaynna Blaze seemed impressed with the Front Yard upon first glance, and Darren gave the girls credit for including a hard stand for a boat or caravan.

Unfortunately, Dave Franklin felt the area lacked curb appeal. “Are we here for a boat, or are we here for the main entrance?” he said.

He suggested a tree or some hedges to separate the hard stand from the lovely grassed area right behind it and create a bit more privacy.

Dave was, however, a big fan of the custom arbours Courtney and Sev carried through to the Front Yard from their Backyard, not just for their practicality but for the subtle sculptural element they added to the space.

Shaynna spotted a big issue when she and the judges headed down to the entrance level: the stairs had no handrail. “There’s a lot of stairs and they’re steep,” she said, which could be a hazard for people walking in heels.

“This is pretty cool,” Shaynna said as soon as she spotted the private little nook tucked away off the guest bedroom. Darren said it would only get better as the greenery grew in and covered up the water tank.

Dave wasn’t a fan of the water feature though. He said it cheapened the whole space and that he would have preferred to see a pond incorporated into the design instead.

Darren was particularly let down by the front door, which was tucked away with no real wow factor to set it apart. “That doesn’t feel like a front entrance to me. It should make you feel something,” he said.

Overall, Shaynna felt that some parts of Courtney and Sev’s Front Yard and Facade felt like they’d run out of cash, leaving the whole space feeling a bit unfinished. She said it was the most disappointing result she’d seen.
