Episode 39 recap: Courtney and Sev’s game-changing rooftop terrace plan rattles their neighbours

We’ve got sparkly wigs, family reunions and Hamish Blake in tiny shorts.
Not your typical Block episode opening scene.
Wyatt is wondering where he can get himself a pair. Nine
Hamish is here to host an athletics carnival challenge. Why? Well, why not?
After a series of extremely silly challenges, from a sprint featuring unconventional race gear and ball tosses into underwear and one intense tiebreaker round, Adam and Jolene take it out and win $10,000.
With son Lando here for the reunions – and because she is obviously dressed for the occasion – Scotty asks Lisa if she’s up for a gender reveal.
Obviously, she is.
Scotty does the honours and reveals it’s another boy!
Back on site the next morning, there are only two words on everyone’s lips: Rooftop terrace.
Courtney and Sev have tried to keep their big plan to get council approvals for one under wraps, but that … has not worked.
Lisa and Jolene are both in the know thanks to “top secret information” from House 3’s builder, who happens to be mates with House 4’s chippy.
Hmmmmmm. Nine
If you cast your minds way, way back to the very first episode, Adam and Jolene asked about that very idea and heard nothing back, so Jolene’s not happy!
“They pull off ideas that other people have, they push somehow,” Lisa says.
That would be Courtney’s still-secret site manager experience, wouldn’t it?!
It doesn’t take long for this rumour to get out of hand, as whispers fly that Courtney and Sev are planning to put a pool on their rooftop.
And that is actually impossible.
The glass balustrade reflecting on the unfinished roofing of House 4 in their render looks a little like a luxe infinity pool – but it’s definitely not.
Courtney and not her pool. Nine
Meanwhile, Tayla heads up to the top of House 1 for a closer look across to her neighbours’ roof.
Don’t tell Adam and Jolene.
She then decides if House 4 can get the council permit, so can House 5.
Fresh off correcting that misinformation, Courtney gets a special visit from Foreman Dan.
He comes with bad news. Shocker.
To add a necessary retaining wall alongside House 4’s deck, they need to bring in an excavator to dig holes.
For that to happen, they need to rip up all the framing they’ve already built.
Womp womp. Nine
Luckily, it’s landscaper Troy Lovett to the rescue.
Troy instead suggests removing the temporary boundary fence and bringing in the excavator from the other side.
That’s one problem solved, but there are deck problems everywhere.
Courtney ends up in a spat with the Cursios over a special type of bracket, so it is again Troy who comes through with the solution.
Not an argument I ever saw coming. Nine
And in House 2, not even the Cursios can stop GMac from instructing them to pull up their decking after using the wrong screws.
That evening, there’s a surprise waiting for the Blockheads at the sharehouse.
Inside is an invitation to Cirque du Soleil, which only about 10 per cent of the group can pronounce.
Hopefully they’re better at acrobatics than they are French!
... They’re not. Nine
Tomorrow night, all that confidence vanishes as all five teams stare down the barrel of an uncompleted terrace and pool area.
Wrong deliveries, “stitch-ups” and Tayla on the tools – buckle up!
