Episode 29 recap: Contestant labels rival ‘a brat’ in heated exchange before Shaynna Blaze declares she wants to buy one house
The final 24 hours of Kitchen Week on The Block begin with an Anzac Day dawn service, followed by lots of coffee and even a smile from G-Mac.
Spirits are high, but not for long.
I’m sensing some tension! Nine
Everyone is under the pump and could definitely use some additional hours.
Rick and Tayla are most desperate, and after facing wrath from her father for not being as helpful as she could be, Tayla calls a body corp to formally request extra time.
Lisa and Rosco are keen, but the trio of other teams is also cranky and refuse to play ball.
They are especially annoyed she is using Rick’s injured knee as an excuse, as Jolene rants to the camera that if she was onsite more maybe they wouldn’t fall behind so much.

“She’s just so bloody entitled, she’s a brat,” Jolene snaps.
Tayla confronts Courtney and Sev after seeing Tim from British Paints working in their house, which despite some pretty damning footage captured by Rick turns out to be legit.
So, we end with no extended hours, no cheating scandal and no love lost between the teams this week!
The next morning, there are plenty of regrets. A couple of extra hours would’ve been great, actually, as everyone’s had to make tough choices about where to cut corners.
Then, it’s tools down!
Now there’s some exciting housekeeping to get through: Scott Cam’s adding a TV to his Plungie prize pool, and this week’s budget winners are Lisa and Rosco.
Bring in the judges.
Adam and Jolene
Adam’s not one to use the word “luxe” but he’s got no other way to describe their kitchen this week, and wouldn’t ya know it, the judges agree.
Immediately, Marty Fox has to eat his words about their massive living room mirror because standing at the kitchen island he can see House 1’s impressive view twofold because of it.
They all love the island too, which Adam and Jolene oriented to face the view.
There’s no sink in it, which is instead on the bench to the side – a winning choice that leads to a huge, HUGE call from the real estate expert.
“Looking at the layout, it’s probably one of the best kitchens I’ve ever seen [and] I’ve been in the game nearly 20 years,” Marty says.
Darren Palmer is blown away by how “elegant and considered” everything in the space is, pointing to the handles and tapware as examples.
In the butler’s pantry, Shaynna Blaze is impressed by the colour scheme and how much they’ve grown in their styling.
Lastly, their powder room has Marty excitedly telling Darren to “get your hands on this”. The walls, he means.
“I don’t even care that there’s a toilet in here, this is probably one of the most beautiful finish rooms in this house,” Darren says.
The only complaint we’ve heard so far is thanks to the tapware above the sink, which the judges wish was copper like everywhere else.
Shaynna also thinks they should’ve moved the door, but they aren’t big enough problems to stop the judges giving a literal round of applause.
Chantel and Wyatt
The kitchen in House 2 ended up just as Chantel had hoped, so fingers crossed the judges like it too.
Walking into the room, Marty can immediately see a “really great shot” for their real estate listing.
Shaynna loves everything about their back wall, from the Cosentino stone to the downlights and shelving.
All the cold functions are in the same spot, which is made even better by a very luxurious curve at the end of the fridge cabinetry.
“These details say high end,” Shaynna praises.
What doesn’t, however, is the sink placed smack-bang in the middle of their island bench. This choice means it’s going to be impossible to keep the kitchen’s sleek, minimalist feel when it’s in use, she says.
Marty sees a lot of consistency in House 2’s style and finish, which he thinks could be a big plus on Auction Day.
But, well, that is as positive as he feels about the room.
“For me it’s just … yeah, it’s cold,” he says, with Darren and Shaynna agreeing. “It does the job, but it’s cold.”
Darren loves the bench curves in the butler’s pantry, but the storage solutions don’t make sense to him.
Finally, and despite, Chantel and Wyatt’s protests, the judges walk into their incomplete powder room.
“To me, this is a really bad fail,” Shaynna reacts.
For once, the Blockheads agree with her!
Lisa and Rosco
Lisa and Rosco took a few risks this week and from the judges’ reactions walking in, they paid off.
Shaynna adores the stone choice and is surprised by how much she loves the arches around the kitchen shelving.
Despite it going against the light and bright brief, the deep oak cabinets get the tick of approval – especially because of how well they complement the styling choices in the living room.
Darren is awed by the ginormous island bench, which is big enough to have an eating zone closer to the living space and a sink down the other end.
It’s so big it has Shaynna daydreaming about tossing off her heels and having a party.
“I have danced on many bars and this is perfect,” she says.
It’s not just functional for a boogie though, with the storage and appliances also getting praise for being liveable.
“I would live in here without a doubt,” Shaynna says. Huge praise!
Marty thinks buyers will love that House 3 offers something they didn’t know they could have in a coastal property and predicts a fight on Auction Day – with or without Shaynna!
Things come slightly unstuck in their powder room, where the tile and paint choices are critiqued, and the judges agree it feels a bit cramped.
It’s too bad because Shaynna was heading towards a 10!
Courtney and Sev
With $250,000 worth of appliance upgrades in their kitchen, it’s Courtney and Sev’s week to lose. No pressure!
Unsurprisingly, the veryyyy expensive upgrades capture the judges attention with Marty imagining a chef-type buyer only being interested in House 4.
While the appliances lean commercial, the judges think Courtney and Sev have done an impressive job softening the space.
Along with the incredible amenity, Sev’s custom-designed pendant light impresses the trio.
There is a second sink, which the judges think is pointless, hiding behind cabinet doors – as well as controversial doors leading to the pantry.
They predict buyers hating them, and unfortunately for the girls, they can’t easily be removed because the cabinets on either side don’t line up.
But once you go through them, there’s a lot to like.
The powder room impresses too.
“This looks really finessed and beautiful and expensive and visually appealing, which is odd because it’s got a dunny in it,” Darren says.
Shaynna deems it her favourite powder room of the day!
Rick and Tayla
Tayla is desperate for the love from the judges, which begins immediately as they spot House 5’s backlit splashback.
“Special”, “exceptional”, “such a feature” – happy, Tayla?
The praise continues over their curved island bench and appliance choices.
In fact, Shaynna says it’s the best room father-daughter duo has done so far.
“I’ve never seen restraint from Rick and Tayla, ever. There’s restraint here,” she says, calling Tayla’s styling “gorgeous”.
And there’s no air-fryer recipe book in sight!
It’s not just her getting a shout-out either, as the judges say Rick’s building expertise is obvious in this room.
Unfortunately the pair didn’t finish the painting in the pantry, which disappoints Marty as he was considering it kitchen of the day.
“This is the best butlers I have seen today,” he says.
“If they’d just had a bit more time to paint, this could be my winner. It really is that good.”
Darren concurs and his excitement only grows in the bold powder room. It’s exactly what he wanted to see: “Impact, drama, a big colour choice!”
What a turnaround it’s been in House 5!
Scotty starts tallying the scores and among many 9.5s, Adam and Jolene receive a 10 from Marty!
It’s a tight race, so they play their bonus-point gnome from the cooking challenge.
Turns out they didn’t even need it, taking out the win by 1.5 points! The final scores are:
- Adam and Jolene: 30
- Chantel and Wyatt: 23
- Lisa and Rosco: 28.5
- Courtney and Sev: 27.5
- Rick and Tayla: 25.5
Next, the teams tackle their laundry and rumpus rooms … but the tension between them? It finally boils over.
