The Queen has a simple hack for getting a good night’s rest – and it will only cost you $5 to try yourself at home.

Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth is a pretty well-seasoned traveller at the age of 92. The Monarch has paid official visits to more than 120 countries around the globe, both on her own and with Prince Philip by her side.

When you have a busy schedule of events and visits ahead of you on an official tour abroad, a member of the royal family cannot afford to be flagging or looking a little tired.

While Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, revealed her jet lag cure this morning on Bondi Beach -- she has been getting up at 4.30am every morning since arriving in Australia to do yoga -- the Queen has an altogether different method of ensuring  a decent night's rest.

Historian Robert K. Massie revealed that the Queen always used to travel abroad with a hot water bottle, that would then be tucked between her sheets at night before she got into bed.

The simple home comfort of a rubber bottle being filled with hot water before being popped in her bed at night was enough to ensure that HM got a good night’s sleep whether she was in Canada, Botswana, or anywhere in-between.

The best bit? A hot water bottle can be bought for as little as $5 from Kmart, so it won’t cost you much to give the Queen’s sleeping hack a try. Maybe one for Meghan to give a go to get a better night's sleep tonight...

According to Robert K. Massie, the Queen also reportedly used to travel with other homely belongings when she was away on royal tours. Everything from her own feather pillow, to a china tea set and even a special lavatory seat made it into the Queen’s case.

We think we’ll just stick with the hot water bottle hack for now.
