Norwegian architects build cabin you can ski on

Designed by Norwegian architect firm Vardehaugen, Cabin Vindheim, is a 65-square-metre space nested in the alpine forest of Lillehammer, Norway. This stunning contemporary escape blurs the lines between residential home and landscape architecture. When heavy snow falls the roof works as a man-made slope for ski jumping.

The bold, black-stained pinewood exterior creates a beautiful contrast against the white snow surroundings, whilst internally the property boasts a spacious and comfortable ply-wood clad living space. The main bedroom filters the northern light along through a four meter-long window which creates a feeling of being above the tree tops and beneath the stars.

Subtle joinery throughout the ceiling works to connect a large living room, bedroom, ski preparation area and a small annex with a utility room. For a space that is situated in such a cool climate, this beautiful natural lit, waxed poplar veener interior makes for a warm, winter escape.
