1. Go native

If you opt for plants that grow in your region, rather than ones that are imported, it will mean the maintenance will cost less. A quick visit to your local nursery to enquire about plants that thrive naturally in your area is a great place to start.  

2. Get inspired

From magazines to gardening books and from Pinterest to Instagram, there is endless inspiration out there. So before you book a costly appointment with an expert, why not look for some ideas yourself? This will save you on consultation fees and mean you already have a good idea of what you want before you begin. Then do some research around costing up the things you will need to bring your ideas to life and you can work out what you can and can’t afford.

3. Mix things up

While you might be after a change in your garden, you’ll be surprised how easily you can make a difference in your green space without actually undergoing any structural overhauls or forking out for new plants. Change things up by simply rearranging the plants you already have and moving furniture around. Maybe your pots could just do with a new slick of paint?

4. Timing is key

If you do decide you want to purchase new plants, the price and quality will vary drastically depending on what you’re after and the seasons. Be sure to compare prices and seasons to be sure you are getting the best deal – if you simply plan your purchases and wait until things are in season, you could really end up saving a pretty penny.
