Buyer chases ultimate bargain offering $1 for cracked Opal Tower apartment

It is a home buyer's nightmare: being asked to evacuate the biggest investment of your life on Christmas Eve due to concerns of potential collapse over structural issues.
The newly-built Opal Tower in Sydney Olympic Park was evacuated on Christmas Eve after cracks were found in the building sparking fears it could collapse.

Last week, experts deemed the building safe to reoccupy, 9News reports.
However, the saga continues for those residents looking to cut their losses and move on.

Real estate agents with listings in the building told The Daily Telegraph there had been an influx of optimistic buyers looking to cash in on the tragedy by snagging a unit for hundreds of thousands of dollars below what owners originally paid.
It's reported that some of the units were listed for sale prior to any knowledge of the structural issues, and those listing their flats are facing backlash for doing so.
Listing agent Du Yang of SY Realty, who also owns an apartment in the building, told The Daily Telegraph selling the units had now become an almost impossible task, and something he was losing sleep over.
While many rescinded their offers once realising the listings were in Opal Tower, others attempted to take advantage of the drama.
“Considering all the controversy lately how about I make you a deal? $1, take it or leave it,” one email read.
An Icon spokeswoman told AAP it would continue to fund hotel accommodation for displaced residents at least until January 16 or until all experts had agreed the tower was safe to reoccupy.

"AAP also understands some apartment owners are already in discussions with lawyers regarding potential class-action suits against whoever is found to be liable for the tower's woes," reports 9News.
With the issues widely reported in the media, those looking to sell have a hard task ahead of them.
