TikToker's 3 natural slug control hacks will finally get rid of those pesky bugs from your garden

Months of heavy rain on the east coast of Australia has caused a lot of problems in and around our homes, including an influx of bugs.

Slugs in particular have been popping up in plenty of gardens, as they love the extra moisture and plant growth rain brings.

Thankfully, deterring slugs from the garden is relatively easy and cheap with plenty of natural methods that work.

Enthusiastic gardener Angel revealed three hacks she uses to get rid of slugs in a video on her TikTok channel @perkyplantparent.

Her first suggestion isn't the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of bug control, but it's definitely a product found in many Aussie fridges: beer.

According to Angel all you need to do to make a beer trap is pour it into a jar with a teaspoon of sugar and a packet of yeast. Then just bury the jar in the garden so the top is level with the soil.

"They can't resist it and they'll drown," Angel said in the video.

Angel's second tip is to sprinkle diatomaceous earth or egg shells around the bottom of your plants. So next time you use eggs in your cooking, think about saving the eggshells to pop in the garden.

But you might not want to think too much about why this works, despite the enthusiastic way Angel delivers the explanation.

"They'll crawl across it, it will cut them up and they'll die," she said.

If those two natural tricks sound a bit brutal, Angel's third method is a lot more gentle, yet still simple to do.

"Use a piece of wood. They'll crawl under it for shade and then you can gather them up and get rid of them," Angel said.

These tips were a hit with Angel's followers, who were also entertained by her perky presenting style.

"GOSH you're helpful," a follower wrote.

If beer, egg shells and wood aren't your thing there are plenty of other natural hacks to try.

Another easy option is to scatter orange peels around your plants. This method is also thought to help with other pests too.

"They contain a natural insecticide called delimonine which can help repel aphids, slugs, mosquitos and white flies. It's even been known to keep out furry critters, including our pets: cats and dogs," said TikToker @theashtonhomestead in a video.

You can also try sprinkling salt on them, just be careful to avoid your plants as salt can damage them.

A barrier of coffee grounds is thought to be a slug deterrent as well.
