Block stars Josh and Jenna share an exciting update on their 'castle house' renovation

The Block is making a tree change for the first time ever in the upcoming 2022 season, which is something former contestants Josh and Jenna Densten know all about.

The All Stars moved to country Victoria from the city at the end of 2021 to renovate an old home. The property sits on a 3.5 acre site in beautiful Rutherglen in Victoria.

And after delays waiting on approvals and permits, they've finally made exciting progress by adding a roof to the rundown building.

Josh and Jenna shared the update with fans in Episode 4 of their YouTube series The Castle House.

Adding the roof was an important part of the renovation as it will help protect the old house from the elements. It also means Josh and Jenna can get the house to lock-up stage so things like windows and doors can be added to secure the structure of the building.

But like all renovations, it wasn't long until another problem popped up: white ants.

"The windows were due to be installed next week, but now we've got to push that back for a few weeks while the termites get treated," Josh explained.

Once the bugs were gone, Josh and Jenna's building works recommenced. This included removing the old concrete deck and putting in a verandah, along with windows and doors.

Josh and Jenna have also decided to go with a modular home builder for the new part of the build, and this extension is expected to arrive in a few months.

The couple are now busy organising the next stage of the project, which will coincide with the busiest time of the year.

"We're now looking at starting the fit-out through the dreaded pre-Christmas rush, so being organised is crucial. We need to lock-in all our choices for our fixtures, finishes and all our furniture to make sure it's all on site when we need it," Josh said.

Jenna added, "So next week, we're headed to the big smoke and we're going shopping! Bring it on!"

The renovation of the castle house property will include a vineyard, entertaining space, and fairy garden for their young daughters Fred and Story.

While the work takes place on the house, the couple and their two daughters have been living in a house attached to a large shed, which they've affectionately named the "shouse".

Josh and Jenna also worked their interior design magic on the shed house to make it a cosy space for them and their children to live in.

The castle house will be Josh and Jenna's dream home after the pair sold the inner city Melbourne house they renovated together last year.

"This was our dream house when we built it but obviously through the pandemic we realised the importance of family and having family close by, and a support network for the day to day," Jenna explained at the time.

Josh and Jenna aren't just busy with their renovation, they've also launched a new business together called Plan Proofing.

The business involves Josh and Jenna analysing building plans and providing recommendations for functionality and individuality.

Josh and Jenna competed on The Block in 2011 and returned as All Stars in 2013.
