Mum creates stunning kids reading nook with $5 IKEA hack

When planning a nursery or a toddler's bedroom, it's easy to become carried away with expensive homewares and luxe pieces.

But it doesn't have to cost you a fortune to create a magical space for your little one.

A creative mum has come up with a genius mini library area for her one-year-old son using a bargain kitchen item from IKEA.

Using the BEKVÄM spice racks, which retail for $4.99 each, she turned an empty wall into a beautiful reading nook.

She posted a snap of the spice racks on the wall on the Instagram, and it's an impressive little hack.

The spice rack is birch, a natural timber look, but she painted it white to meet the aesthetic of the room.

All you need to do after painting is screw them onto the wall and load the racks up with your child's favourite books.

With six racks on the wall you're looking at just over $30 for the project including a few screws, but if you did want to paint them it would cost slightly more.

The best thing about the spice racks is they are so versatile and can be painted to meet the design of your child's room.

You could also put them up on a wall in the cubby house to create a beautiful reading area for your little one.

To finish off the look of your new reading nook throw a couple of big comfy pillows down or a chair for a cosy space to read and relax.
