How to furnish your child’s bedroom in style and on a budget

TODAY sent Chelsea Thomas from I Heart Bargains on a mission to furnish a child’s bedroom entirely from scratch, that’s both affordable and stylish.
Watch the video above to see the all the items she purchased and what the grand total comes to, or read on for links to many of the items Chelsea uses.
The bed
Chelsea says that even though it's for kid’s, children's furniture can be quite expensive.
The single bed she chose is $169 from Fantastic Furniture and is gender neutral. The single mattress is $89, also from Fantastic Furniture.
Linens
All the bedding is from Target, that’s including flannelette sheets and throw, and came to a grand total of $20. Bargain.

Shelving
Kmart shelves to conceal your clutter set Chelsea back just $35. The two woven basket boxes came to $20 for both.
Storage is so important in children’s bedrooms. For that price, it just means you’ll have to assemble the shelving yourself.
Seating area
Kmart’s table and chairs set is just $29 and the perfect place for kiddies to sit and play or draw.
Bean bag
“It’s really good material so it’s going to wear when your kids jump all over it,” says Chelsea of Big W's $19 bean bag.
Lamp
The cute star night light is just $9 from Kmart, and "what I love about this, is you pop the light in there and then it throws the star pattern onto the walls – great bargain," explains Chelsea.
Side table
"You could use this in a parents room," Chelsea says of the simple white Scandi-inspired bed side. It’s just $35 from Target. The 9Homes pick however is this two-drawer wooden and white side table for just $4 extra.
Chelsea says many people hack items like these simple white side tables, as a way to personalise or tzsuj.

Stuffed animals
The cute and snuggly sloth is just $15 and all the toys are under $20.
Rug
Chelsea says many people ask her where they can find a decent rug for under $100, “really hard to find,” she admits.
The rug she found is $79 from Bunnings. “Bunnings and Spotlight are doing really good rugs, check it out.”
Grand total
Total cost: $692 to completely furnish a kid’s room in a stylish and functional way.
Under $700 to furnish an entire room from toys through to the bed base is pretty impressive, considering a bed base alone can cost more.
Host Sylvia Jefferies, however, points out that this is for the total furnishings, and most people would already have the basics and just need to add a few things here or there, meaning the cost for finishing your child’s room would realistically be much lower.
