Terrifying glass slide opens on LA skyscraper rooftop

From the ArcelorMittal Orbit in London to pedal-powder rollercoasters in Japan, architects and engineers must be having the time of their lives with the current obsession for thrill-seeking sight-seeing destinations.  

The latest destination for stomach-churning good times is The Skyslide, a glass-bottomed slide on the rooftop of the Los Angeles US Bank building.

The slide, which hangs 300 metres above the ground, reportedly set the bank back around $4.7 million to build, and plunges riders from inside the 70th floor down to the outside of the 69th floor.

The building is the tallest skyscraper west of the Mississippi River towers.

Thrill-seekers will pay $US25 ($33) to slide down the 13.72 metre dip which is made from bulletproof glass. If they’re lucky they might catch some of the 360 degree views of the city from above – not that most will be admiring the view as they speed down the slide at a heart-attack inducing pace.
