The Block takes on the infamous St Kilda Hotel, The Gatwick

Mention “The Gatwick” to anyone living in Melbourne and chances are they’ll have an opinion. Eyesore, blight, dump – these are just some of the choice terms that have been used to describe this old hotel and boarding house, which has had something of a dramatic fall from grace in recent years.

Enter The Block!

“I knew it was a fantastic, iconic building, and I knew it had so much potential, so I was very excited when I heard The Gatwick would be our next project,” says Scott Cam, who is returning to host the show for its 14^th season.

“Fitzroy Street is itself an eclectic hub and The Gatwick is at the heart of that. It’s had various lives over its time and now we’re about to breathe new life into it.”

The Block returns to the Beach

This year’s Block will look a bit different to its usual Melbourne wintry vibe. Heading back to the beach, this season is reminiscent of the Block’s very first season.  

“This series brings us right back to where we started in Bondi in 2003,” says Executive Producer, Julian Cress. “We filmed in summer, which gives it a flavour, I think, that hasn’t been seen on The Block for a very long time.”

The Blockheads: It’s state versus state

From Victoria, it’s Netballing besties Bianca (35) and Carla (35). Bianca is a Commonwealth Games champion and Carla played for the Vixens, so these girls are bound to bring their competitive spirit to the Block.

From The Shire in New South Wales, Sara (33) and Hayden (45). This competitive couple are bound to bring some drama to the Block. 

From Queensland, it’s the battlers Jess (33) and Norm (40). There’s not much builder Norm can’t do, but could the Gatwick get the better of this down to earth couple?

From South Australia, Kerrie (48) and Spence (48) are the ones to watch. This husband and wife team might just be the most experienced contestants the show has ever seen. They’ve already had their home featured on Grand Designs!

From WA are this year’s reno rookies. Hans (37) is a pilot and Courtney (33) is a flight attendant. They might be cool and collected in the skies but how will they fare on the Gatwick?
