With the last $10,000 in prize money for the winning rooms up for grabs this week, the teams were throwing absolutely everything at it for the Backyard Week win.

For Adam and Jolene in House 1 and Courtney and Sev in House 4, it was the chance to play their secret weapon – and it had nothing to do with their backyards – which resulted in an outcome no one saw coming.

The week may have been all about Backyards, but these two teams had one thing on their mind, wine cellars.

The week was plagued with whispers and rants about prices, art pieces and plenty of chatter surrounding the bespoke wine cellar going into House 4.

That’s because House 1 also had a wine cellar going into their garage, which Jolene had locked in first.

“I think the girls need to f--k off, because they have absolutely tried to copy everything we’re doing in the garage,” Jolene blasted earlier in the week after finding out they had another similar feature.

It’s not the first time House 4 have been accused of taking too much inspiration, or as other people have put it, “copying” House 1.

But really, when you look at the wine cellars both teams delivered, it’s no surprise they were the standout design choice this week.

House 1 opted for a wine rack which sat in a small room behind their garage and really amped up the wow factor in their place.  Nine

When the judges arrived at House 1 the sculptural designs in the outdoor area were impressive, but the real wow factor was in the garage – which couldn’t be said for every team.

The premium finish of the flooring, the batteries and the Blast car wash station had the judges wowed.

But it was the wine cellar inclusion that really sold the dream, with Darren Palmer even noting that it looked like an art installation.

Over in House 4, it was a similar story, except Courtney and Sev chose to go big with their wine storage and created a wine room – a gamble they needed to pay off.

The stand out for all the judges, including guess judge Dave Franklin, who were all blown away by the design.  Nine

It was a choice between giving their landscaper Troy Lovett more money, or throwing the cash at the “gimmick” as he called their wine cellar, in an effort to impress the judges.

In the end, they bit the bullet and ordered the “custom, artisan, wine cellar rack” as their wow factor piece.

“This rack is art, and it is bespoke, it’s unique, it’s a one-off, it doesn’t have a retail price… bingo bango,” Sev proudly told the cameras earlier in the week as it was installed.

The judges were blown away as they walked into their garage during reveals and instantly gravitated towards the incredible wine rack.

Sev stretched their budget to the absolute max with the custom rack that she likened to a piece of art.  Nine

Shaynna Blaze noted that it was “pure bespoke luxury” like the girls have become known to deliver, while the positioning of the rack and the mirror created an endless feeling of it stretching down the room.

With space for hundreds of bottles, a table and chairs to enjoy a sip and a chat in the quiet, the gamble seemed to be working in their favour.

In a turn of events no one saw coming, both houses took the win in the first tie of the season.

Adam and Jolene got a total score of 34 1/2, with their biggest competitors Courtney and Sev also finishing off on the same score of 34 1/2 .

“No way,” Adam muttered to Jolene as Scotty Cam revealed the score during judging.

The two teams had to split the $10k prize money, walking away from the week with $5,000 each.
