You're likely to have already mentally moved into a place before physically unpacking your boxes, however there's a few basic staple pieces which, when done right, will step up your home style game from day dot.

Here are five must-haves to make your new house scream you.

1. A knockout sofa

It's the first thing you're likely to notice when you enter someone's home so make sure you go for one that represents your style and personality —– no pressure or anything. If you're in a small space, choose a sofa with longer legs to add the illusion of space. Go for colours, fabrics and patterns that speak to you e.g. bohemian velvet or neutrals for a minimalist look.

2. A stand-out coffee table

While your coffee table should be practical enough to rest a cup of joe, or squeeze into your tiny one-bedder without transforming your space into an awkward obstacle course, it’s also a perfect opportunity to add a touch of your signature style.

3. A feature lamp

It's often an overlooked feature of your space, but lighting is everything. Dodgy lighting can make the difference between wanting to spend all your time in a cosy-feeling room, or wanting to get out of their ASAP. Choose a lamp that will provide the type of light you want. 4. An accent chair

Unlike your sofa, which you'll be committing to for at least a year, accent chairs are easy to switch up and don't have to cost a fortune. It can be as cheap and cheerful as a framed Society6 poster or an investment piece, the important thing is that you love it. Moving into a new place is a great time to rotate your existing art to give it a new lease on life.
