Real reason Chantel and Wyatt were ‘hell-bent’ on leaving after Block budget blunder

Exclusive: After a shock budget call-out from Scott Cam after The Block 2026’s first Room Reveal Sunday, the first thing Chantel and Wyatt did was check their bank account.
The host had told them they had spent the most money of any team in the first week, racking up bills totalling more than $20,000 – but they knew that could not be right.
The couple immediately knew something had gone wrong. Nine
The pair were convinced that was wrong and were desperate to clear it up that night, leaving them frustrated as the fallout continued into the next day.
“We could log into our CommBank, which we did as soon as we left site, and check – and we could see exactly how much we had spent,” Wyatt said.
“It was only two or three invoices that we calculated, so we knew exactly how much we had spent, and going into the show we prided ourselves on our budgeting ability, and we were made to look silly.”
The couple were “hell-bent” on leaving over what they first assumed was a deliberate stitch-up made for reality TV drama, agreeing to a chat with Scott and executive producer Julian Cress the next day simply to ask for an apology.
But they were soon vindicated when the pair apologised for a major accounting error that counted their builder’s bill twice.

“We are extremely sorry for what’s happened,” Scotty said. “It 1000 per cent was not deliberate.”
The sincerity worked on Chantel, who changed her mind after the discussion.
“Production, they were trying to fix things, and I could see they were trying to make the situation better, and that overall made me feel better in myself and swayed my decision to stay,” Chantel said.
Wyatt was still unconvinced, but agreed to stick around for her sake.
Scotty and EP Julian fronted up with an apology for the blunder. Nine
Thankfully, both of them were able to put the incident behind them as they continued in the competition.
“You can see they were genuinely sorry about having the mistake,” Wyatt said.
“It was just kind of frustrating because we knew on Sunday night that it was a mistake, but after the apology, everyone’s support was amazing.”
After thinking it over, Chantel and Wyatt decided to stay. Nine
That included the other four teams, who were technically their rivals but showed nothing but love to the couple after the issue came to light.
“We went on site and everyone was amazing and very caring, and we had Adam approach us and just be like, ‘You guys need to stay, it just wouldn’t be the same without you guys.’ And that was really heartwarming,” Chantel said.
“All the contestants were really sweet. It helped us make that decision as well,” Wyatt agreed.
