The future of modern micro living

When you live in a small space, you know the list of compromises when it comes to maximising space feel are endless. However, with urban density becoming more of a reality and home spaces shrinking as a result, designers are taking note that bigger doesn’t always mean better in home design. 

MIT Media Lab today release a potential answer your storage woes with Ori, an intelligent, robotic system which has been designed by Yves Béhar (of Fuseproject) that aims to create a functional interior space that transforms at the touch of a button. 

The product, which combines robotics, architecture and design, can transform a studio space into a dwelling with a separate bedroom, office or living room, and closet storage. 

As the video above shows, its robotics are hidden by a large block which contains a standard-sized bed, dining table, kitchen bench space, a desk, and a closet space.

The first system will be available in early 2017 and is especially suited to 27-square-metre (or smaller) apartments.
