This curvy London pool lets the light - and rain - in

You don't really need an outdoor swimming pool in London.

So the architects for this Clerkenwell extension thought a little bit differently when they were redesigning the narrow backyard.

Architects Tonkin Liu created Sun Rain Rooms, an extension incorporating a shallow pool, an office space with workshop, cooking area and storage, and an extra bedroom and two bathrooms in the home's basement.

The tiled pool can also be drained to allow for entertaining or play outside. Then a tank on the extension's green roof collects rainwater to fill it up once more.

The house is Georgian (meaning it's at least 180 years old) and heritage-listed, so the design didn't alter the front of the house at all. But the back is now a modern haven for work, rest and play.
