A mum has put an oven cleaning method to the test to find out what gets them shiny, and it's become a viral technique.

Cleaning the oven racks is usually a household task that's put to the bottom of the to do list.

But one mum wrote to cleaning group Hinch Army Cleaning Tips to reveal a creative oven cleaning hack that got users excited about the mundane chore.

The hack involves filling the bath with warm water and adding tumble dryer sheets (a pack of 40 costs less than $10 from your local supermarket), then placing the racks into the water with washing up liquid. The racks are then covered with tumble dryer sheet and left to soak overnight.

The mum explained to the cleaning group how she thought up the clever solution to getting those pesky oven racks clean again.

"I thought I would try this last night after a few glasses of wine. My husband was wondering why I was emptying our oven and taking them to the bath. Thought I had gone mad," she wrote.

"I then proceeded to throw a couple of tumble dryer sheets in with some warm water."

The forum exploded with comments from fans who adopted the same approach and got great results.

"To the lady who posted about soaking the oven racks in the bath with tumble dryer sheets. I love you," one woman wrote to the group.

"Popped them in a hot bath with the sheets, left to soak for a couple of hours and then wiped them over. The grime cleaned off so easily and with no harsh chemicals that would normally get on your chest."

"Had to share. tried out a proper bonafide hack today. Best hack I have come across.

"I dutifully put my racks in the sink with a splash of washing up liquid, a tumble dryer sheet and added boiling water. Left it to soak for one hour, and then used the dryer sheet to wipe all the gunk away."

The original poster also cautioned the group against not telling other household members about plans to use the bathroom for the hack.

"A few hours later our eldest comes home from a night out and proceeds to have a shower. Yeah you can see what's coming. He steps in the shower then proceeds to shout at the top of his voice there's something in the shower."
