There are a lot of tips and hacks on the internet that claim to make life easier, or simple jobs even quicker.

But turns out there's a basic task we've been doing wrong our whole lives — changing our bin liners.

A woman has shared her mind-blowing discovery on TikTok and claimed she's actually been using bin liners wrong for her entire life.

A woman claims she's been using bin liners wrong and showed the 'right' way to do it.  TikTok

In the video on her account Stored Simply, she started by shaking a bin liner open. "You're not supposed to do that," she said.

Surprisingly, this is how 99 per cent of people do get a new bin liner out, but apparently that's wrong.

"See this, the seam is inside out. I did not know that," she explained while holding up the bin bag.

Instead, you open the liner and place it over the mouth of the bin like a hat and push the bag inside.

She wasn't the only one who was blown away by the hack, which has been watched over 11.7 million times.

"Why, why is TikTok teaching me more life skills than I learnt at school?" commented one TikToker.

It's not the first time this life hack has gone viral, with a man named Chris sharing the same tip on his TikTok in June 2020.

In the clip on his account he revealed that shoving the bag in and trying to wrap it over the edge of the bin is actually not the best method.

"When I learned not all people do this I was SHOOK," he captioned the video.

Instead of pushing the bag into the bin and trying to hook the edges back over, Chris demonstrated what he does.

"Putting the bag over the bin and then pushing it in," he explained while doing it.

With this method there's no air inside the bin, meaning it won't puff up.

It may sound trivial, but the post about changing the bag in a rubbish bin has been liked over 85,000 times.

While it seems so basic, it's the kind of hack that actually makes a household chore easier. Of course, people love it.

"Oh my gosh I've been doing it wrong for 58 freaking looooooong years," commented one user.

Another added, "Yes. Thank you for this life-changing tip. Will be doing this now."

"Oh my gosh genius! I can't believe I never thought of it," wrote one user.

Although the hack seems popular, not everyone is impressed with the technique. One person commented, "When the OCD won't let you do this because it would mean using the bag inside out."

Inside out or not, a hack that makes everyday chores easier is one we're happy to get on board with.
