Rick and Tayla land first win with design detail some might find polarising

Wrapping a bathroom in a single tile style promises high-end minimalism, but without careful restraint, it can easily overwhelm the eye.
But Rick and Tayla thought that was a risk worth taking for their Main Ensuite – and it definitely paid off, with the pair bagging their first win of the season.

The couple went for earthy, textured tiles for the space in a beige colour that was complemented by the beautiful skylights above.
Rather than feeling heavy or boxed-in, the floor-to-ceiling beige tiles brought a grounded, cocoon-like warmth to the ensuite, turning raw stone elements into a seamless design statement.
The judges most definitely agreed it was a game-changing move, with the words “bloody beautiful” and “absolutely gorgeous” being thrown around about the tiles upon arrival.
Being House 5, all the other homes had been judged previously – but the tiles were labelled the best of the day by one of the judges.
“I think using the same tile everywhere succeeds – it feels very coastal, very beach, it looks like a landscape from above and it’s really really great,” were the comments made on the luxurious space.
The couple didn’t go overboard with their spending, either; they estimated a cost of $17,240 and they actually spent $16,359,58 to make their dream come to life.
It was a tense moment at Block HQ when the scores were being read out, with Rick and Tayla pondering whether or not to use their Bonus Point Gnome for an extra point on the scoreboard.

Tayla was adamant she didn’t want to use it, but Rick insisted and they went for it.
It’s a good job they did, as they managed to win their first-ever Room Reveal by just half a point!
