Alisa and Lysandra won The Block 11 years ago, but one word from a judge still haunts them

All stars from The Block don't get much more successful – both in and out of the competition – than Adelaide sisters Alisa and Lysandra.

The identical twins won The Block: Sky High in 2013 and went straight back the next year for The Block: Fans vs Favourites in 2014, taking home more than $1 million in prize money.

They quit their jobs as police officers, started an interior design business and launched a personal care brand al.ive body that is in homes all around Australia.

Yet when talking to host Shelley Craft on The Official Block Podcast about their advice on dealing with judge feedback, there was one comment that still immediately leapt to mind, even after all this time – uttered by none other than Shaynna Blaze.

"Shaynna said we were tryhards," Lysandra recalled – albeit with a laugh and a giant smile. "So that wasn't very nice."

However, Alisa was quick to point out the other side of Shaynna's commentary "but she also said we should do this as a career." 

They also gave a timely reminder about just how important listening to judge feedback can be. 

"I remember when we did our first disastrous bedroom and the judges gave us feedback… and because we took it onboard that changed our whole trajectory" Lysandra said.

And in the current twentieth season of The Block where styles are maybe more distinctive than ever, getting the balance right between judge feedback and personal taste could be even more critical.

"It's such a hard one because yes, there's the end goal. Yes, you have to appeal to the masses, but at the end of the day you still need that money each week to win," they commented.

"You still need to win rooms and you're not going to win rooms by just being that average house that appeals to the masses necessarily. You can try and impress or you can try and stamp your entire personality through a home and that's the risky part."
