'Shut your lips!' Watch the emotional moment the new teams found out they'd been chosen for The Block 2023

Tens of thousands of people apply, but only five lucky couples get to take part in The Block each season.

So when they get the news that they're going to be on, it's a life-changing moment that's met with tears, big grins and a mammoth celebration.

In an exclusive clip, which you can watch above, we get a glimpse at the the exact moment our teams – Kyle and Leslie, Kristy and Brett, Steph and Gian, Leah and Ash and Eliza and Liberty– discovered they were going to appear on Season 19.

Leah and Ash had been watching The Block on the couch since 2017, and in the words of the mum-of-three: "God, I wished that was us."

"Timing has just never been right, and we wanted to grow our family..." she said. "Something came over us last year, I said to Ash, 'This is it. This is our year, we're going to apply.'

The couple were then told: "You don't need to apply again!" - and their ecstatic reaction was priceless.

Kyle and Leslie had applied for The Block five times. Their little boy Luca, 11, said this year was their "one last chance" to get on.

"You never, ever have to put in another Block application," they were told in a video call.

The news prompted plenty of squeals, smiles and hugs.

When Steph and Gian were told the good news, he responded with three hilarious words: "Shut your lips!"

Meanwhile, Brett thought he was part of a prank. "Don't stitch us up, man!" he beamed as he learned his life was about to change.

Sisters Eliza and Liberty revealed that a psychic had told them they were going to appear on a TV show.

"Your psychic was right," the siblings were told, before screaming in exciting and waving their arms around in glee.
