'Traumatic': MAFS' Evelyn Ellis and Duncan James' lucky escape after pet dog eats common outdoor item
Married At First Sight's Evelyn Ellis and Duncan James shared their "traumatic" experience after their beloved pet dog was rushed to a vet clinic.
What started as a day out in the park left the couple panicking after their well-known dachshund Mustard "ate a fishing hook".
Evelyn and Duncan, who are known to take their dogs to popular bays across Sydney, said they wouldn't wish this on anybody.

"Traumatic day for our poor mustard..." wrote Duncan on Instagram. "Someone got hungry at the park and ate a fishing hook! 😳."

The long silver hook, and what appears to be a sinker, was found lodged in the dog's gum.
The reality star shared photos of the shocking discovery before vets were able to safely remove the hook.

Luckily, the hook wasn't swallowed.
"Hopefully she's okay! Hope this doesn't happen to someone else's dog!" said Duncan.
Mustard is now resting and recovering at home "for some TLC" with plenty of kisses from Pickles.

How to stop your dog from eating rubbish
In a perfect world there would be no litter for our four-legged friends to consume out on their walks.
While that's a nice wish it will likely always be a frustrating problem.
The K9 Training Institute suggests teaching your dog the 'leave it' and 'drop it' command, you'll be able to say it any time you see your dog moving towards an item they shouldn't eat.
You should also take note of your dog's cues, if they're body language is unusual it's a good indication something isn't right or it's about to not be.

Scavenging is natural instinct to dogs so if you want them to stop it on walks you'll need to give them another opportunity to get it out of their system either with an at-home scavenger hunt by hiding treats in the backyard or a snuffle mat.
